I was looking at a auto parts stores brake catalog and noticed that the master cylinder part # was the same for a corvette and chevelle? Is this possiable. Can they design the master to work on two different brake systems??

I recall in the 70s the part #s being the same but price was different if you bought it for a Vett verses a Chevelle Call two different part stores and ask for prices 1 at each store. See if there is a difference.
I think it was a Chevy C10 pickup instead of a Chevelle. Then maybe they were all 3 the same.

I can't see how a 4 wheel disc master can be the same as a disc front, drum wheel car, as the drum brake masters have a 2 pound residual pressure valve, usually right in the master, to hold some pressure in the drum brake lines so the shoes are close to contacting the drums. This is not needed in a disc brake setup and would cause premature wear of the caliper brake pads. Read about this at the master power brake website. www.mpbrakes.com (http://www.mpbrakes.com)

Take a closer look at a new disc/drum master. Most all m/c's don't have those residual valves any more. I was looking to find a disc looking m/c for a drum/drum car. No residual valves in even the drum masters I looked at. Seems they aren't really necessary with the improved wheel cylinder cups and self adjusters. Haven't been for years. With self adjusters keeping shoes close residual valves aren't needed. The synthetic rubber cups won't let air in even when there is no pressure in the system.

Jon: This is all news to me, Can you get us some part #'s and more info on these wheel cylinders and adjusters that will work on our Chevelles.

those residual valves are only in drum/drum masters, not disc/drum masters
