: 68 Malibu?
68 327 Feb 1st, 10, 9:07 AM I have a 68 either 300 or Malibu, not sure, havent run the VIN but it has a lot of Malibu trim on it, but the car was altered in the past alot.
The car has a 327 bored 30 over that doesn't run. (not known why, yet)
Factory 4 speed car
Needs a hood and trunk, trunk pan and floor pan. Lower quarters and fenders, inner and outter rockers.
The interior is trash but i can salvage the seat frames and dash.
The frame is in decent shape.
Definitely needs brakes, exhaust, gas tank, fuel lines, tires
The car is surface rust but not sure how deep it is yet.
It has been sitting out in PA for 15 years and has not run.
Does anyone have a rough estimate on a price?
OldSoldier Feb 1st, 10, 9:11 AM So basically you think you might have two good doors (maybe) a frame and some malibu trim? I'd say your value depends on the quality of the trim pieces left.
68 327 Feb 1st, 10, 9:31 AM I would say that all of the aluminum, and stainless trim is ok, minor scratches do not bother me, and i can buff them and make them shine again. The chrome has got to be shot, I wont replace it right away, but its most likely done for.
Doors are not even a positive. I havent done a thorough look yet.
But basically what you said is true. Two doors, and everything above the body line. The roof is going to need work....
Any price thoughts?
FLASHED Feb 1st, 10, 9:46 AM 68'S seems to be the red headed stepchild of the Chevelles. Ipersonally like 68 better than 69 but most dont which means resale value is affected ,parts are harder to find and alot of times more expensive. If you do buy it you are better off buying a parts car than looking for individual parts. As for a value I dont have a clue .I know I am way upside down with mine as it will never be worth what I already have in it and it is nowhere near done. Whatever you do good luck with it .Look on the classified here and see what is available and get an idea of prices on parts and cars .
opivyrocks Feb 1st, 10, 9:49 AM got a pic? buckets? console? 10 bolts in rear differential cover or 12? muncie 4 speed (look up how to ID)? all of these will add value
68 327 Feb 1st, 10, 9:55 AM buckets, console, muncie, not sure about the rear
opivyrocks Feb 1st, 10, 10:00 AM If all those parts are usable you have at least $1500 in value, maybe more if you can get it running. So you at least have that.
opivyrocks Feb 1st, 10, 10:04 AM Get that deck stamp off that 327 also, its on the block on the pass side front.
Dropzilla Feb 1st, 10, 10:51 AM 1000-1500 seems fair. Calculate with what you can invest (labor of love). They do say 68 is a SOFT year. I believe 68 had the least production numbers. I would think they would be worth more? Also it was the last year to differentiat SS from Malibu by the vin.A lot of one year only parts so dont throw away anything to quickly. I like the tail lights on a 68 better then 69 IMO.
68 327 Feb 2nd, 10, 7:38 AM I am a bigger fan of the 68 tail lights too. Thanks for all the help guys. much appreciated. Ill post up some pics in a couple weeks.
