I am looking to add 4 wheel disc system to my 1971 El Camino SS. Can anyone point me in the right direction on a salvage yard front swap with minor modification. I think I can use the rears off a 96 camaro with some mods..

The 4 wheel drums just aren't cutting it with 500
+ HP..

You can get used/junk yard fronts for around $300, but by the time you clean them up and get them in good enough shape to install.......
There are companys that make kits that will bolt right up to your drum brake spindles. If you want to spend alitle more you can put 13" Corvette brakes on. Got mine for a Zo6 vette. If your close to League City and want to see mine shoot me an email. Later.

I went the swap route. :( 540 is right, if you can afford it, just bey a complete kit for the front, and rear. Save yourself the nightmare.

I went the "cheap" route with great results.

'70 monte carlo junkyard front complete setup $100 (good luck finding another one at this price though  )
New rotors, calipers, bearings, master cyl, lines, and hoses added up to about $250

On the rear I bought brackets from a guy on here who goes by the name "tlowe" for $75 or so (can't remember exactly)
'85 camaro FRONT calipers $50
'80 camaro REAR rotors $90
'68 vette NON-POWER master-cyl $40
Wilwood adjustable proportioning valve $50
new lines and hoses $40

For about $700 I have better brakes than most new cars smile.gif

I also went the cheap route with great results. If I were you and didn't need the Elky as a daily driver, I'd be tempted to machine the original spindles (easy and free), buy a set of caliper brackets from our sponsor, Ground Up ($109) and buy loaded calipers from your local parts supply house ($60). I salvaged a set of rear disc off of a 79 ElDorado for $40, threw a rebuild kit in them and modified the bracket. There are incidnetals too that add up and depending on how you do that, is a difference in cost also.

I should add that my $700 was just brakes alone. There was also a suspension rebuild/upgrade involved and a lot of little things you'll decide to do while you've got it apart. I have probably $1,500 into the chassis of my car, and still have cheap shocks and original springs.
