I 've got a 64 Malibu ss with a sbc/ac with 2 inch drop spindles and would like to stiffen up the front end. I' ve got a bottoming out issue. Currently running stock springs an KYBs. Looking for suggestions on what spring/shock combo to get as I've seen threads that suggest that the shocks that match the springs are important.
Thanks!!!!

I had a bottoming out issue on my 72 with the KYB's. They were replaced with Bilstein's and the issue is almost gone. It still bottoms when going through large dips at high speeds. I am going to change the springs next to get a little higher ride height. The roads here in Pima County are really awful.

I've got the same issue "high speed dips." Sounds like Bilsteins and new springs might be my fix. I'm not sure how old my current stock springs are.
Thanks

Phil forgot to tell you we don't have bridges over our wash's just
big dips in the road to let the water go OVER the road...
I had to go all the way up to big block springs and I'm still sitting low and have to watch those dips (on Camaro) jay

Sal:
Did you have 2" drop spindles and then went back to stock spindles w/ 2" lower springs?
Thanks

I ve got 2" drop Eibach springs all around and Bilstein shocks. On the ride back from the alignment shop I noticed the rear is bottoming out.
The shop mechanic noted that I probably now need to get shorter shocks to compensate for the drop in spring rate. Just keep that in mind if you go with the drop springs. You will have to contact Bilstein for the next size smaller.

When running drop spindles and stock springs, cars will often bottom out. This is due to the soft spring rates not being designed for the lower height, and not controlling the car enough to keep the car from bottoming, as the car is 2” lower to the ground, and the tires are now 2” closer to the wheel wells.
If you're fond of the current stance, you'd benefit from some higher rate, performance springs (http://www.hotchkis.net/6466_gm_abody_lowering_coil_springs_set_4_1_drop_b ig_block.html). The KYB shocks also tend to be a little harsh riding. Bilsteins would be a better choice.

Does Hotchkis make a stock height performance spring for the 64 Mailbu?
