Hey everybody! I know you guys have gone through this a million times, but there is at least one of us out there that took the short bus :).....I have a 68 chevelle with 4.11 gears and I am in the market for some new tires and wheels. I've seen posts about what size would work but no info on the offset/backspace. I'm looking at 275/60/15 in the rear and 205/70/15 in the front. I saw a set of 15x8 for sale with 4.125" backspace with offset 4". and for the front it was 15x6 with 3.25" backspace with -1" offset.....any suggestions...will it work? Thanks!!

That setup should work perfectly for your car. A 275-60 on a factory Corvette 8" Rally fits and they are 4" bs from the factory.

Awesome! Does that setup of backspace and offset make sense to you? I wouldn't think I would have any clearance issues or hard wear on the tires due to the setup. I've seen so many different explanations of offset, wouldn't those specs have the wheels just about centerline?

People often get confused about backspacing and offset. Backspacing is measured by the inch or increments of an inch and is measured from the back surface of the wheel that contacts the hub of your vehicle to the very back lip of the wheel. Offset is measured in millimeters and a wheel with zero offset is exactly centered. So, a 10" wheel actually measures about 11" outer lip to outer lip and if it is centered it has zero offset and the backspacing would be 5.5". Now, take that same 10" wheel, and it says it has a 25mm offset then there would be 25mm added to the backspacing and since 25mm is very close to one inch then the wheel now has 6.5" backspacing. If you see this wheel with -25mm offset then it would be about 4.5" bs. Any wheel measures about an inch wider just like the 10" above so your 8" wheel measures 9" and zero offset would 4.5" bs. Your 6" wheel measures 7" and zero offset for it would be 3.5" bs. The wheels and tires you asked about should fit with no issues whatsoever!
