: 69 bucket headrest, convert to 70?
general23cmp Jan 30th, 10, 9:23 PM I have purchased a set of 69 bucket seats to replace the bench seat in my 70. What is the difference in a 69 headrest and a 70, and what will I need to convert my 69 to the 70 headrest? I hope it can be done.
I'm willing to buy new locks and headrests if that is the key difference....
cheveslakr Jan 30th, 10, 9:51 PM There isn't a difference between the two. The upholstery is different but that's it. You're on your way.

general23cmp Jan 30th, 10, 9:52 PM Are your sure? The restoration books I have show different locks and headrests for 69s?

Bench seat headrests are different than bucket seat headrests.
Maybe that's what you are seeing.
Bench seat headrests, one wide flat post that goes into the seat back.
Bucket seat headrests, two skinny posts that go into the seat back.

general23cmp Jan 30th, 10, 10:50 PM Nope. 69 bucket headrest is a different part number than a 70-71. The locks also have different part numbers, and appear to lock on opposite sides of the headrest posts.

Matt's right... Not sure what the difference is in the headrests themselves, but the repros (several different catalogs I have seen) are different part numbers... The locks are similar, but the level is different (round knob in 69 and angular knob in 70+), as well as the internals of the lock...

This is news to me, I've never torn into the locks or examined the posts side by side. I'll study a little harder next semester I promise. :D

Now back to the original question. What would need to be changed to make a 69 headrest bucket seat into a 1970 headrest bucket seat and work properly?
I can't remember exactly what The difference is but I believe it is in the shafts that raise and lower the headrests. The lock notches are in different places on a 69 than a 70. There is definately a difference. So to answer your question the difference is in the posts and I doubt they can be changed to 70 style. If they are in good shape sell them and pick up a set of repos. The repos are pretty good quality. Personally I wouldn't bother as it would only be noticable if the headrest was raised.
