: Best Parts Supplier
NEW2MALIBU Jan 30th, 10, 7:03 PM Going to start doing some work on the 67. Who do you guys use to order parts from, with decent quality and good customer service? NPD,Year One, Paddock, Etc. I use Summit for most of my stuff, but I am looking for a car specific vendor. Like Classic Industries is to Camaro stuff.
Chevelle_Nut Jan 30th, 10, 7:08 PM Hinshaws and Ausleys give great customer service.
The Deejay Jan 30th, 10, 7:13 PM x2....these are some of the best to deal with..............
rwin1592 Jan 30th, 10, 9:42 PM I have bought quite a bit of stuff from Original Parts Group with very satisfactory results. They seem to have stuff some of the others don't (or at least from one supplier). Get yourself a catalog from several, compare prices and shipping costs, etc. Most are buying from the same manufacturers so the products are usually similar (other than possibly interiors).
Molly's 70 Jan 30th, 10, 10:06 PM I have puchased parts from all the above. It all seems about the same to me. I just ask if they have it in stock & go for the lowest price shipped :clonk:
NEW2MALIBU Jan 30th, 10, 10:13 PM Thanks for all the replies. I do have some catalogs coming from the companies that offer them for free. I'm not cheap or anything but if a company doesn't give out there catalogs for free, I usually don't use them.
RAIDER SS Jan 30th, 10, 10:40 PM NPD is good too. The thing is; you don't need to stick with one vendor. Like they said; check pricing WITH shipping.....or you may find a vendor that will be attending a car show that you will be attending and they will GLADLY bring the items to the show for you with NO shipping charge! :)
cuisinartvette Jan 30th, 10, 10:52 PM Been buying from The Muscle Factory for over 10 years, great service and prices. Only gotten 2 parts from them that i wasnt happy with and I was taken care of no questions ask. I understand NPD and some others are good too, I just stick with 1 co if I like them though. Sure a lot of these parts are made by the same place and reboxed :beers:
wills65 Jan 30th, 10, 11:22 PM I can only speak forNPD and OPGI. I usually buy from NPD because the shipping is quicker and cheaper(they have a location in FL) for me. I have not been disappointed by NPD yet. OPGI was not bad but their shipping is killer if you dont spend over ~$400 to get the free shipping. I had one set of decklid moldings for the '65 that were bent when I got them. Called NPD, talked to my sales guy Steve, he sent out another set free of charge and free shipping and didnt even want the bent ones back.
DN27 Jan 30th, 10, 11:42 PM I use Muscle Factory and they have been great to work with
normie Jan 31st, 10, 12:00 AM East Coast Chevelles has been good to me so far..
It will be good for you to check the reviews section of the site to know who to patronize and who to avoid..
Bob's66396 Jan 31st, 10, 12:12 PM Hinshaws. James Hinshaw knows more about Chevelles than anyone in the resto parts industry,in my opinion. I have dealt with all of the above suppliers, and they all have good records with me. The one thing you have to watch out for is the quality of the part, cheap Asian junk cost alot more in the long run. All the parts I have gotten from Hinshaws have been quality parts...Bob
wihaltom Jan 31st, 10, 1:51 PM I have bought parts from just about every vendor mentioned in all these posts. It all depends on what part you are looking for and the availability of that part. I agree with Bob's66396, in that the imported junk has fitment problems and is not the quality I want in my cars. But sometimes, that imported junk is the only thing available so you buy it and then make it fit, if possible.
Ground Up and Ausleys have worked out best for my 66. Summit for generic stuff. NAPA is also doing real well.
65 El Co Jan 31st, 10, 10:08 PM True Connections has been the best for me to deal with. Great customer service and prices.

41565chevelle Jan 31st, 10, 10:26 PM OPGI is right down the road and Classic Industries is across the street from my work. Both owners are related. I buy all my stuff from OPGI and they are great to work with. Never any issues and will bend over backwards to help. IMO
71 chevelle 71 Jan 31st, 10, 10:56 PM i see Idaho, i believe it's either in Idaho or close to. biscayne restoration or something like that has a bunch of stuff at a more local and personal experience if your interested i can dig thru my email for a phone number. i know they wanted a more than fair price for an SS hood for my 71.
Chris R Feb 2nd, 10, 2:24 AM I had good luck with Ausleys and OPG personally. The next time I place some orders for parts. I plan to try NPD and Hinshaws. Heard many good things about them actually.
ACP1 Feb 12th, 10, 9:58 AM I have been noticing a lot of posts about Hinshaws. I have known James for over 30 years and I consider him a friend. Since we are only 5 miles apart from each other and we stock 100s of thousands of dollars more than he does, has it ever dawned on you where he gets a lot of his parts. He is a very knowledgeable person and we even attended car shows, sharing the same spaces back in the early 80's. I even at times call him for advice on some items, but for your large orders, especially sheet metal, nobody has more parts in stock than Ausleys.
mr409 Feb 12th, 10, 10:13 AM My favorites are Muscle Factory and NPD. I found Muscle factory to be the best priced on most item. One tip, call your order in rather than pay on their website. The shipping calculator always reads high.
If your buying alot of parts, I suggest doing what I did. I made a chart of each part I needed, then went to every parts vendor I could find on the net and put each of their prices next to the part. The price differences can be quite a bit depending on the item. Consider each vendors shipping cost into this as well.
It definetly pays to shop around. You can save hundreds of dollars real quick!
For large parts, try to buy them locally or at swap meets. You'll see the parts first hand, get them without damage and not pay a dime in truck freight! :hurray:
highlandlake Feb 12th, 10, 8:52 PM I have had good experiences from True Connections.

darrell69 Jun 16th, 10, 11:29 PM Hinshaws and Ausleys give great customer service.
I would not buy a part from Hinshaws if it was the last part I needed to make my car run and they were the only ones that had it!!!!! I was looking for replacement hood hinges for my 69 chevelle several years back before repo hinges were available for it. I call around and no one had any for a 69.Then I called Hinshaws a was told they had them. I asked several times, are they for a 69 and was told yes ever time. We talked for awhile about the fact that no one had them for a 69, other years but not a 69. When they arrived they were for a 70, so I called and talked to someone at Hinshaw thinking it was just a mistake and to reorder the parts. Well he came unglued. Yelling at me about my car not being a concours restoration and on and on and on. Then he said just send the parts back!!!!! Yes I know 70s will fit and work on a 69, but the point was he said they were for a 69 and they were not.

I have had mixed results with them, but they are always nice enough on the phone. The problem I had was when I called to get the trim strip above the windshield for my convertible, which despite my skepticism they assured me they had. Not only did it not fit (of course it didn't, it was for a coupe like I tried to tell them initially) but I had to pay return shipping because they didn't know their parts. At that point I quit using them.
It is often worth the very small amount of time it takes to shop around.
68malibubbc Jun 17th, 10, 10:20 AM I've bought tons of stuff from original parts group over the last 10-12 years. My experience has been mostly good. Back orders and parts that don't fit or aren't as pictured/described has been an issue a few times though, which is pretty frustrating. They'll pay return shipping and no restocking fee at least(they better do it lol)...
In all fairness as to the mis described parts, I looked at some of the other vendors and see them make the same mistakes on those parts.
I used opg mostly because I didn't know of others, not because they were outstanding or anything. Their catalog was impressive 10-12 years ago compared to ground up, which was the only other one I knew of back then.
So, I'll say opg is decent. I'm still going to do business with them, but I'm exploring other vendors too. I know many of the parts come from the same place. I placed an order with ground up recently and was satisfied.
One thing I will say though, is beware of opgs website, at least right now. Their product descriptions and titles are very borked at the moment.

Roger,
I can only speak for myself on this subject as to why someone prefers one over another.
I dont think it's any secret that James buys parts from you, especially any of us that have been around for any length of time.
For me and my wife, I believe it's the personal relationships that get formed over the years. My wife and Sylvia seem to enjoy each others company as well. I can sit down at James's trailer and do nothing but talk all day.
My interest lies in 66's and James has never failed to have the answer.
And for me it's all about trust also, and I think that comes along with the personal relationships that get formed. I have found that if a part is crap, James will be the first to tell me. And, he's the only person that I trust just to keep my credit card on file.
No matter where I'm at, I can call James on his business number, or his personal cell phone , tell him what I'm looking for and it shows up on my front porch.
Do I buy parts from other sources, of course I do, but I always holler at James first.
Thats as complicated as it get for me as to why I recommend Hinshaws!
Rocky
bubbamura Jun 17th, 10, 10:25 PM Here's a good place also, the car and truck shop in Orange, Ca. Great prices and usually has most items in stock, quality is good also.

BRN2RUN Jun 18th, 10, 12:27 PM Muscle Factory!
Geo71 Jun 18th, 10, 8:15 PM I've used Year One, Ground Up, NPD and Restoration World. Been happiest with NPD. Orders are here next day and the parts seem good so far.
For mech stuff its been Napa, Summit and Jegs.
chevelle hunter Jun 18th, 10, 11:07 PM I seem to go to Ausleys,i can see roger at Carlise and see what i am getting, always has been decent, i have bought from others, some okay some not.i recently bought some bezels for my 69 from a diff vendor and they were junk and they wanted a 30% restock fee, went to see roger in the spring and his bezels fit right in.sometimes cheaper is not always better.
mwiggett Jun 19th, 10, 10:17 AM I have had good luck with Ground Up and have used them for 99% of my Chevelle needs, yes some of the repro stuff I have got from them isn't always correct, but that holds true for other companies. They are also close to me, so shipping is usually next day for me
