: Correct 72 choke setup?

I'm helping a friend restore a 72 Heavy Chevy (plain jane 350 engine) and he wants to go back with the original carb/choke set up. I know the carb will be a Q-jet, but was the the original choke a thermal coil in the intake cavity or the heat tube going up to the thermal coil on the side of the carb? Or maybe electric?

Also, how about the firewall color. I know it is black, but what "degree" of black? Anyone know?

Hope someone can help. Thanks

Mike

Original choke setup should be a 'divorced-type' meaning the choke 'coil' sits in the intake and is covered by a housing. The choke rod comes up from that and engages the Carb choke lever.
Firewall should be Semi-gloss Black. Search on here for info on mixing the correct %.

Thanks very much for the quick reply Mike. I have a heat tube intake but I figured it was a little too late for a 72. I'll be on the hunt for the older type. If anyone has a line on a factory 4 barrel intake like the one mentioned, let me know. Numbers correct is not necessary. Thanks again Mike.
