I need some help from all of the experts! My 66 SS hood inserts have 8 potmetal studs that the pal nuts attach to, to secure the inserts to the hood. 4 out out of the 8 are broken about half way off. Just about where the pal nuts bottomed out. Do any of you have any repairs suggestions for the broken studs? Or, do any of you have any remedies that I can use to secure the inserts to the hood? Thanks for your suggestions.

I have a few broken studs on mine also. They are broken flush with the base though. I plan to get some studs at the hardware store that have the big flat heads. I will then JB weld (epoxy) them to the inserts. I may then have to "dimple" the hood around the holes to compensate for the extra thickness. If you do this, make sure both surfaces are well scuffed and clean before joining. I think I will be using 1/4" studs. These could also be made from grinding the head of a 1/4" x 1" bolt to .020" or so.

I have a few broken ones on mine also and it really doesn't affect the fit of the inserts.

Is there enough of the studs left that would still allow a barell nut to still tighten it down? If so, I would just carefully tighten them down on the hood when your ready and be done with it.
