Is there any way to find out what engine came in my 1967 chevelle from the factory? When I purchased it, it had a 350 in it. I bought a 1967 chevelle fact book and this is what I've determined so far. From the vin# (13617) it's a malibu 8 cyl.This is a factory air car, and to the best of my knowledge, the rear end is origional with 3:36 gears. Under the heading of Chevelle Power Teams in my book that leaves only the two choices, the 283 (195-hp) or the 327 (275-hp). Thank you for your help.

On the fender, if it only has the v flags, it's a 283. With the 327 numbers above the flag, it's (obviously) a 327.
