: question about rear discs with no e-brake?

I installed '95 f-body rear discs on my car, and removed all the e-brake hardware since I didn't want to hassle with trying to get an e-brake to work right now, and figured I'd go with the pinion mounted e-brake eventually.

Here's the question, i've been told that the calipers I have depend on the e-brake to stay adjusted properly. is this true? If so, how can I maintain their adjustment with no ebrake?

thanks,
Brian

Brian Not true with your setup Brian. That's the beauty of the PBR pin guided caliper. The e-brake mechanism slides the caliper on its abutment pins to clamp down on the rotor. The caliper piston self adjusts just like a regular caliper.

Just another way engineers have reduced unsprung weight.

cool, thanks Joe. I have been a little concerned about this ever since I heard it.

I definitely reduced some unsprung weight when I scrapped the e-brake, the e-brake mechanism for the rear calipers had this big weight on it that must have weighed at least a couple pounds!

You probably heard the e-brake thing from people getting the old school Caddy calipers with the integrated e-brake (really a power screw in the piston) mechanism confused with the newer setups out there. Those caddy derived setups need to be hooked up to the e-brake and used frequently.

This is a little off the subject but in texas you have to have an e-brake to get a vehicle inspection. just something to think about. i know if one did not have to have it i would not. :D tommy

get hysterical (historical) plates and you don't need inspections anymore :D In Mo. we are limited to 1000 miles personal use and unlimited car shows, cruises and parades....dang I go to a lot of car show/cruises :D
