I am still looking for someone who has had experience with alignments-I am ready to realign my 70 model for better ctr steering.
It wanders too much and requires lots of corrections, new gear, tires, tie rods, etc.

The fact caster setting is -1/2 with 1/2 degree tolerance positive or negative. How far into the positive segment do I want to go to try to eliminate my wander? Should I go to 1 degree positive or further? The spec tolerance would take it to 0, so how much more should I set it at?

I had my 66 GS set at +3 deg. caster. Awesome!

David,
On my '69, I went with all the positive caster I could get while maintaining camber to spec. I'd take more if I could get it but front shim packs are nearly zero. Exact caster setting is not really important as long as its the same on both sides. Unbalance caster will cause a lead or pull.

Wander can also be caused by insufficient toe-in.

Compared to modern cars with rack and pinion steering, old Chevelles just don't have very precise steering.

Try to get all the pos. caster that you can. Maintain -1/2 degree camber and 1/16 inch toe in(total), and you'll be ready to roll!
