I put my transmission back in from some 7 years ago, and put the new cooling lines on and they are very close to the header, and dont know if it matters in it proximity to such heat. Anyone know where I can find a picture or diagram where to properly route these lines?

Unless you are concerned with originality, which doesn't sound like the case since you have headers, the proper route for the lines is determined by where they have room to avoid the headers and such.

5/16 hardline is cheap, and it's not too bad of a weekend project to bend and flare new hardlines.

...and a sheetmetal heat shield would be cheap and easy to fabricate.

Keep in mind that ATF is surprisingly flammable.
