What gives here? Working on a 68 300 post car with manual drum brakes, swapped out the fronts for 71-72 GM disc brakes and kept the drums on the back. Bolted up a power brake booster that I know is out of a 71 El Camino and the brake lever from the pedal to the booster is about an inch- inch and a half too short. Called Steve Gregori, he says it should fit...I have other boosters that are unrestored and all the dimensions are the same between the restored booster and the others. We also matched up the original brake pedal with two others we have and they also match. Do 68s use a different lever?? Seems obvious but would like to find out for sure what the problem is. Thanks!

Does your brake pedal have two holes in it? When a power booster is installed it will connect to the lower (or was it upper? cant remember now!)hole and will be closer to the floor than with the manual brake setup. This is normal, and the factory bolted a small metal tab in the other hole to hit the stoplight switch, as the pedal is now too far away to hit the switch. I would think the factory 68 pedal would have both holes in it?

The pedal has both holes in it, should of mentioned that in the first post. That small tab would hit the switch but the pedal misses the hard rubber stop.

I had this same exact problem with the booster in my 70. Once connected and adjusted as far out as possible, the pedal still would not hit the rubber stop. So, I took the "U" piece off and welded a nut to it to extend the adjustment and problem solved.

Do you have a car with power brakes in which the pedal does hit the rubber stop? I think that the power brake pedal sets way below that stop, hence the need for the striker tab to activate the stop light switch.

Correct, the pedal is not supposed to hit the rubber stop with power brakes.
