I have talked to several people on this site and several local transmission builders and im getting 50/50 for either one....

I am running a 383 with 3.73 gears, 750 DP, RPM air gap, VooDoo Hyd roller...70% of the time it will be a daily driver when the weather is good. but when I go to the track I want her to run and run fast!!

I can tell you I have been using an Art Carr 200R4 for @ 11 years with same gears as you behind a 502 and I like the gear ratio. Freeway cruising with lockup is 2,200 rpm at 68-70 mph. I have hit 152 on the Autometer speedo with rpm's to spare. It helps that I have a spoiler from a 70 GSX added. Keeps the front from lifting. With an 850 Demon I still pull 18-20 MPG freeway. Don't go much over stock with converter. Also as others told me, I recommend CK transmission in N. Y. That's the stuff.

Ive been told that 700r4 is upgraded of 200's...My 700r4 works very well and by friend Stude Mike just put one in his 66 Nova/383/450 hp

Everyone seems to prefer the 200, why? I know of a really good 700R4 rebuilder locally.

The 200R4 has a better gear package, the 700 has a huge separation from 1st to 2nd.

I also prefer the 200R4's....

The 200-4R is stronger than the 700R4. Oh...and it is 200-4R not R4, but that is just a nit.

I'd say stock for stock the 700 is stronger to a degree but,.....

The 200 is smaller, lighter, less parasitic losses, better gear ratio and can be no stranger to danger as plenty of buicks can prove.

Seems simple to me. :)

In "stock form", most 700's are stronger than most "stock" 200-4Rs... But in modified/built form, thats not so much the case. With a few common upgrades, the 200-4Rs can be very strong.

The 200 has better ratios (IMO)

and IF you are swapping from a TH350 or Powerglide ( or Muncie, etc), the 200 is an easier swap...
