Lower corners of back glass not good!:noway: Looking for replacements!
Originally a vinyl top car but owner wants top painted.
Quite a bit of work now for the top to get ready for paint.

Curious about the plant and how the special color is depicted on the trim tag. Do you have a photo of the trim tag by chance?

Sure do. The hood is still on the car so I can't get a good picture. When the hood is off, then I will post a picture.

I might be able to get a pic, Dale. I do agree it will be a great color combo with the black vinyl top. This cars still has the original quarters on. You can still read the numbers on them. Any one with a parts car that has the lower areas (L/R) arround the window in good condition?

Another Baltimore car with "BD" on the cowl tag. How about some one taking a shot and decode it?

Luis

Should be a pretty car if put back together as per cowl tag:
White top, pearl interior, with orange body.

More pictures of car when purchased...and the buildsheet! The roof will be painted this time around though. I think the car sat outside for approximately 10 years. THANK GOD someone found the car before it was too bad!!!:hurray: The hood needs quite a bit of work. Does anybody know what the significance is for the mark in the corner of the hood?

That will be a beautiful car when done, IMO you need to put the top back on . Keep the pictures coming:thumbsup:

Good progress! Might reconsider the vinyl top, they're making a comeback. Even if you paint the top be sure to keep the trim pieces. Nice to see the original photos, I notice it has the trim pieces below the headlamps as well.

Wow, that is a nice project. Forgive me if I missed this. Did you get any interior peices with it or was that stuff all gone?

steveschevelle
Feb 10th, 10, 10:21 AM
Yes i did get all the interior parts with the car. Everything is origional in the interior except the seat covers and door panels. They were pretty nasty. I will put a photo album up soon that documents the first 5 years of restoration. Very pleased with what the paint shop has done so far! Keep up the awsome work!:beers:

Steve, will you consider putting back the white vinyl top. I think it will look great with it. White top, white stripes, and white interior is a killer combo.

I intend to eventually restore it to 100% original condition. I like the look better without the vinyl top so that will be one of the last things I do.

Steve,
That is one outstanding car. You will be able to take it to about any show and not see another one like it. As others have said, killer combo with the wihite vinyl top.

By doing the top now it will save you money and it will take less time to finish the Chevelle.

Steve,

I personally don't like vinyl tops either. Although well intentioned, don't let the guys talk you into something you really don't want for now. If it were my car, I would leave it off too. JMO.

What a killer factory combination ... it doesn't gett much better than Hugger Orange with antique white stripes and a white vinyl top .... (couldn't be that I'm partial to this combination or anything ... I painted my '72 Elky this combination back in 1998 ... wouldn't change a thing!!!)

I'm with you, Steve. Although an original option, I think the car has much cleaner lines and looks better without the vinyl top. It can always be added later.

Steve, does the Chevelle have the original drivetrain? I'll be at the shop tomorrow morning.

steveschevelle
Feb 13th, 10, 9:30 AM
Yes. The drivetrain is all original. The only things that are not origional to the motor are the intake manifold, headers, and hei ignition. But i do have the originals. And they will eventually get put on the car.

Looking great. A bonus is the fact that it still retains it's early hood which are REALLY hard to come by. Hopefully it was in good enough shape to keep.

You must be a very lucky guy, finding an umolested 70 396 Chevelle ss in the shape it was in. Yes it still needed to be restored but it could have been A LOT worse off.
Beautiful car, can't wait to see it completed.

I just happened to come across this thread searching for something else. That is the most beautiful color combo I have ever seen. IMO you should also put the white top back on.

What a find to get a complete unmolested car with all of those factory options. You are very lucky and I am jealous!

How about some more pictures on the progress.

:hurray::beers: Hooray. Finally some long awaited pics! Status of the build... emblems, trim, window felts, etc. Also aligning front end sheet metal, fenders and hood :(. So many options on adjustments with these pieces. Shouldn't be this difficult, they are original panels to the car .

Need some help though. I'm not sure how the trunk emblem is attached to the trunk. The emblem fits nice but i didn't take the old one off and the aftermarket one didn't come with fasteners. I am guessing that it is held on with speed nuts on the 1/4" holes.
