I have a 70 454 car. The car has rear air shocks and I noticed that there is some kind of space in the front coil springs. Without pumping up the air shocks the back end seems to sag. If I pump up the air shocks the wheel hop is terrible. I want to get rid of the air shocks, install SSM lift bars, put new springs on and replace the bushings with polygraphite. I am set on the shocks I think I want, the PST bushings and SSM bars but I don't know what springs to get. I imagine I would be fine with "stock" springs to get the height back. What sources are there for these and what appx price? Oh, by the way, It looks like the prior owner put the spacers in the front springs to keep the headers from hitting on bumps. They were an unknown header brand and were all beat up underneath. I am replacing with Dynomax headers and don't want them to get all beat up so I really dont want to lower the front end. The car is a weekend cruiser and occassional track drag racer. Thanks, Skip

Was your car originally a big block car? I have a 454 in my '69 with Dynomax headers and Hotchkis 1" lowering springs. The headers haven't hit the ground. I think you might have small block springs up front.

Yes it was an original 454 SS car. The spacer in the front springs more than likely was put there to stop the old headers from hitting. The new headers are Dynomax. The old ones are unknown brand and appear to be 2". They were very low. Where is the best place to get new stock springs?

A lot of guys get Moog springs which can be purchased at any number of parts stores. NAPA and the like. If you search this forum you might be able to find the exact part numbers.
