I recently bought a 92' 700r4 to rebuild and put in my car. I was just wondering if i should go through with it because i have heard that the second gear ratio is crap. Another thing people have been telling me is that when in overdrive there is quite a delay for the lock-up to disengage and it doesnt kick down right away. Just wondering if i should stick with the 350 or build the 700r4.

The first to second gear split is pretty broad and somewhat noticeable. The good part, you have a really low first gear. The not so good part, unless you are "on it" to keep it in first, the shift to second is noticeable and significant, like short shifting a manual. But hey, you aren't "on it" so no big deal.
With my 700, the logic for the lock up is simple. If you are in O.D. and not on the brakes, then the lock up is engaged. The engage is not delayed. It has nothing to do with kick down.
The only time I have been able to feel a problem is for a very slight increase in engine load with a very slight increase in acceleration. Like a long gentle hill when you want to pick up your speed. It doesn't need a downshift but it does need a little torque converter multiplication. In this case (which I've only notice on only one hill) I can feel the converter clutch chatter. A little more accelerator and it calls for a downshift and problem solved. A vacuum switch wired into the logic would also cure the problem, but I've never gotten around to it.
