If you're talking about flaring brake lines, don't waste time and money on a cheap tool. I have bought several cheapos, in a vain attempt to find one that works, but only ended up with great frustration and buggered up brake lines. The only good one I have found so far was a Mac tools I borrowed from a friend, and it was amazing what a difference it made to use a good tool.

If you can't afford a good one ($100-150), borrow or rent one, let a shop do the flares or whatever, just don't waste your money on a cheapo. In my experience, they can do a descent job on copper line, but are worthless when it comes to brake lines. They will slip, and they will flare off center. Great way to increase your vocabulary though. ;)

I got one from Sears that works OK, but you have to clamp it in a vise to keep the tubing from moving. It seems that brake fluid removes all lettering and numbers from it too. Cheap tools suck.

They should have most of what you need. I have made my own by using standard assortment lines, cutting to lenght and swapping fittings around a bit. You just have to compare, and sometimes buy two lines to make one. Usually works out using standard NAPA or Auto Zone parts though.

I used a flare tool I bought from Kragen. It worked pretty good. They had a few tubes with the hard line and fittings on it in the back that I was able to look through. I bought 2 long lines, and 4 or 5 shorter lines with the 3/16" inverted flare fittings on them, and then I just cut and flared.

I also had to make adapters for my front drum brakes, because all the shops around here (Kragen, Danchuck, Autozone) have the wrong hose in their databases for front drum '69 Chevelles. I ended up getting the '68 front disc hoses.
