On a rear end with coil spring cups, is there no hold down bolt/clamp/etc? What I have is a 65 Chevelle with a cup style rear end, but someone installed a kidney-shaped plate at the bottom of the springs. These make no contact with the spring, and would seem to help only if the car was completely airborne, maybe not even then! I searched through the old posts here, and now believe that these plates belong on a flat plate style rear end. Do I need to buy a correct hold down, or is none needed (i.e. body weight and the cup retain the spring)?
Thanks.

My 67 rearend has cups and no hold down clamp is required on the springs. I beleive the older ones like my 66 rearend (just ordered a Moser not yet received)use flat plates and a clamp of some kind is required to hold the spring onto the rearend. I cannot find a source for these clamps and do not even know what they look like.
Could you post a picture or E-mail me a picture of what yours look like?

I can't put up a picture of mine, but I found this link in another discussion on this site. Mine look pretty similar.

I'm guessing that someone swapped in a later model rear end and used the hold downs from the original. From what you said about your 67, I'll probably leave them off.

Thanks guys. I started looking today, looked in the standard aftermarket manuels Ground Up, Year One OPG etc. did not even think to check a dealer for these. I logged on and saw eli65 had a similiar situation and now I am all set. Should be picking up the new Moser on Monday.
Thanks again.
