I know these are a popular wheel - so maybe there are some idea of how to fix this;
I have 2" 1 piece drop spindles, they use the 10.5 early 80s mailbu rotors. They are also a pretty popular setup since they are cheap and there are tons on ebay for sale.
I just got my new 18" 338s - very excited BUT whe trying to mount the front wheels the casting of the rim where the boss cap goes hits the rotor where the dust cap goes. I tried a 1/4" spacer and the wheels fits, but then the dust cap hits the boss center when trying to install.
So it is either no dust cap or no center cap - with a 1/4" spacer.
OR
1/2" spacer clears everything
I tried the 1/2" spacer billet style - (nice part from allstar billet) with new studs and lugs and now the tires rub the outer fender. I need to go with a shorter tire in the front (45s now probably will go with 35s or 40s)
I was thinking that I might be able to have the outer portion of the rotor machined off - the portion that hold in the dust cap. I might be able to leave a little lip to hold the cap, or I could take it all the way off and run with no dust cap. The car doesnt see many miles and is only driven on dry days (Florida car).
Has anybody had this problem? If not beware of the 338s if you are running these rotors.
Has anybody run their car (intentionally) w/o the dust caps? They will be hidden beneath the wheel and center cap.
Any suggestions would be greatly apreciated!
Thanks Dan
