I smoothed my firewall, but need to pass a big ol' EFI connector through it. What are some good sources or ideas for firewall grommets? It would be great to find a two piece deal because the connector is about 1.5" but the cable bunlde is .5" at most. emphasis on keeping engine noise/smell out of the cab.
Please don't send me to paint and body. ;) After all, this forum is for "Today's performance with classic style". :D

They offer a split seal, sizes from 1/8" to 1", and a "blank"...
Sold at Summit, about $29 each...

You could go all out and get those mil-spec connectors. It would basically be a bulkhead you could mount to the firewall. Makes for ultimate seal and easy to disconnect when you pull that engine for the upgrades HA.

To get my speedometer cable through the firewall I used reproduction tire well plugs for 55 - 57 Chevy cars. Requires 7/8" inch hole and the center can be sized to fit any cable. I had to split it to get it on the cable and when installed it fit nice and looked good, not like a normal panel grommet. 2 were in the package for $2.95.

I have quite a few of those laying around.... Hmmmm. Most are green olive drab in color, but I have a few nickle cadmium plated. They would be too bulky though. I plan to exit the firewall right at the bend for the tran tunnel and the backshell on those connectors are usually have a large bending radius.
thanks for the input guys! Good leads for sure. :)

I used a grommet from a 1995ish crown vic police car. Its on the passenger side just behind the wheel well. It is closer to 1.5 inches however so it may be a bit big for your application.

I like Amp circular connectors but for the uninitiated you can end up with a headache. Best bet is to go to your local pick n pull and go look at the import cars. Early to mid 90s cars from Nissan or Mazda have some nice LARGE gromments made just for passing harnesses through firewalls. Cut off both sides of the harness and your good.
Seals-it is great as well.
I prefer bulkheads myself but 50+ wires on some efi setups can be daunting.

I was honestly amazed at how many OEMs just run the harness through a rubber grommet in the firewall when I surveyed the wrecking yard. This is actually the predominant solution they use.
