Looking to swap my tired old Saginaw 4-spd for a shiny rebuilt M20. Anything crazy that I might need to look out for during this job? I plan on getting it all set up out of the car while its away at paint, and then sliding the motor and trans in together. Any tips will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Direct replacement other than the shifter which will require a muncie installation kit or other shifter depending upon what you have. Watch out for the price of shifters!

Make sure it's not a late M-20 with 26 spline input and 32 output or you will have to change more than shift linkage!

Well, being the giant procrastinator that I am, I have finally got the motor and trans ripped out. As for the input/output shafts, I have a 10 spline input and a 27 spline output. I was going to bolt my Hurst V-Gate 2 up to it, but had a minor catastrophy. So my helper unbolted the wrong bolts and before I could stop him, we had a pile of shifter parts laying on the ground. UGGGH! Does anyone know how to reassemble one of these monsters? Oh, and can I use the same shift linkage that I had on the Saginaw? THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!! :beers:

Oh boy, yeah, you pulled the outside bolts off, instead of the inside. It's not real hard to get it back together, but there are a bunch of skinny thrust washers that have to go in the right places.I don't have a picture, nor do I know how to describe it,but I took mine apart and put it back together,so it can't be too bad.Maybe someone else has a schematic, and will chirp in here.:)
