I took my master cylinder off last night and the cup shaped seal between the master cylinder and booster had a new tear in it where the rod goes through. Could this cause my vacuum leak? I went to my local Chevy dealer parts department and they said that seal should only be a dust seal. They are not very knowledgable on the older stuff I think. Seems like if it's anything older than the 80's models, they are lost.

The seal will cause a vacuum leak if torn, get a new one. I forgot once to put mine back in and had a hell of a vacuum leak. Good luck!
