: Which Dash Pad?

I'm doing a dash restore on my 66 Malibu SS and I was wondering what dash pad to use. Is it better to use the urethane or the molded foam style? Are there advantages to using one over the other?

I would like to keep it as stock looking as I can.

As usual your help and comments are much appreciated! :hurray:

If your stock one can be recovered, I'd go that direction before buying a repop

The repops of these are some of the worst looking repro parts out there. Dont even waist your time on getting a repro pad.

Talked to James Hinshaw last week about dash pads for 67's.
He said that there were 4 or 5 manuf of these dash pads and some were better than others. He has looked at them all and only sells the best and communicates with vendors to produce a better product. I was impressed with speaking with him.
His shop also does interior restorations on chevelle's.
I'd give him a call before I bought a repro dash pad. He sounded very knowledgeable and will fix you up with the best looking of the repro's.
I know the repro I got from a name parts distributor doesn't fit well at all.
Hope this helps.

Thanks everybody for your insight and comments. I think I'll start and look for a local upholstery guy who can re do my dash pad.

They can do restorations on the original core. Downside for you is shipping across the border twice.

Make sure you do a search here on Justdashes before sending them anything. Seems there was a post not too long about about some that recieved thier dashes back and the results were very dissappointing. Especially considering they are quite expensive.

sorry to hijack the thread for a bit but it really is a pain to restore a car from canada.i just paid over $79 in shipping and brokerage fees for $54 in parts from a company in the northeastern states.largest part was an owners manual and box size was 8"by8" by 51/2".
happens every time and none of the free shipping ever applies not even a small portion.
everything from tremecs to original ss dash from california and never a break.even the gas tank thats made in canada i could not find a vendor for it in canada (aaargh)
anyway sorry again for venting and i do sympathize with having to send that dash across the border twice.
the repop dash i purchased is about a week away from being installed.
will report after install.

For what it is worth
The opgi dash I got for my 66 fit okay.
Came in a box marked "Dashes Direct"
Pretty sure my seat foam came from them as well------did not fit so good.

I've heard negative feedback on some repop 66 dashes concerning the studs, they tend to dislodge in the pad and become useless. Just passing on that since I never and would never buy a repop pad.
