Hi all, my name is Mike i'm fairly new to the site, first post. I have an oct. 68 balt. built 69 chevelle ss 396/325hp , turbo 400 with a carter quadrajet. A previous owner states that this is the original carb. I have doubts. The round i.d. tag says 7028212 K7 C DH The limited info i can find(chevy by the numbers) says this is for 1968 327& 350 motors. On the back side is a tag that says Holley remanufactured with numbers on it(see picture). So i call holley tech and they tell me the 7101 number is 427 & 396 usage and the 7096 number is for small block usage. This carb used for both. Different internals i suppose. I'm not sure if i should have a 7028 or 7029# on my i.d. tag. 4th digit being year produced ? Can anyone give an opinion as to whether this might be original carb to this car? See attached pictures. Thanks for any info.

Welcome to TC.
You carb has a Nov 7 build date so it was built after your Oct built car -not original.
7028212 comes back as to what you've found '68 327 -350.
Being rebuilt by Holley ,they likely changed the configuration applicable to the 396-427 you mentioned.
For all practical purposes it's still a '69 327-350 carb.
The OEM carb was 7028210.

From what i read they skip the I in the date code which would make K7 an Oct. 7 built carb. Car build date 10C, 3rd week of oct. Is the 4th digit in carb # year produced as i read. If so, a carb produced oct. 7, 1968 would'nt be for a 68 model year car. However, when looking for a correct carb would i want a 7029200 or a 7028 # being a 68 built car. Thanks for all replies
