: Bolting Caliper To Spindle

I am just finishing the tall spindle swap using stock calipers. The bolts/pins that attach the calipers to the spindles have 1/2" long metal sleves on them. I wasn't sure where these go. I looked in a couple of repair and assembly manuals and could not find a good pic. Do any of you have a photo that you can post or can you explain where they go? Thanks in advance.

the sleeves fit into the caliper where the bolts go through. If you just bought new hardware the old ones may still be on your old calipers? The sleeves slide into the caliper and ride on an oring in the casting. Lube them up good on the outside when you install them as they let the caliper move back and forth.

Dave is correct. If you look at the caliper, one of the mounting pin holes will be big, one will be smaller. There is an o-ring-type seal that goes into the groove inside each of these holes, then the metal sleeves insert into the larger holes. Them you mount the calipers and slide the mounting pins thru the big hole side first, then all the way thru until the end of the pin barely pokes thru the small hole. All done.

Hope that helps.

The proper lube for the o rings is silicone grease. Rub it on both o rings and slide the sleeve into the caliperflush with the inside edge. place the caliper on the bracket and install the bolts. The bolts will center the sleeve in the proper position.

I went to re-attach the caliper to the spindle and when I inserted the bolt with the sleeve on it, I noticed that whoever had the car before me installed the caliper without the o-ring mentioned in previous posts. Is it possible to replace just the o-ring? If so, where do I get them? Thanks.

You can get them at your local NAPA store, ask for a caliper hardware kit for the approiate year of your car.
