Then what is this????

Shouldn't it just have one porportioning valve?

Thanks, Lance

"This" (blue oval) is the proportioning valve. The top photo is the distribution block. At least that's the way I understand it. Others want to confirm?

I have seen lance's brakes in person and that valve in the oval is plumbed to the front brakes. Shouldnt the proportioning valve be plumbed to the rear brakes?

the first photo shows a simple distribution block. It performs none of the functions of the somewhat similar appearing "combination valve" that some call a "proportioning valve".
the second photo is a "metering valve". It delays pressure to the front disc brakes to allow the rear to begin to get some drag before the front discs fully kick in. Without the metering valve, the front end will nose dive because the more effective front disc brake setup will brake more effectively than the rear drums. About 1970 or 71 GM went to the combination valve or proportioning valve instead of the metering valve, which was common on the 69 front disc cars.

bhawk, dont some people run their front brakes directly off the master and run just a adjustable valve to the rear? Im just curious.

70's have the metering valve also. 1971 was the first year for the combo valve. I ran my 70 with power discs for about 2 years witout the metering valve and never had a problem with it braking. I added it a couple years ago to make it look "correct".

Bigmoe65, I have read a number of posts, as the last one above, where people run their front lines directly to the disc brakes without using a metering valve, with no reported ill effects. On the disc conversion on my 69 I just finished I went with a combination valve bolted to the frame and all works very well.
