I have a motor for sale, and a guy who is interested doesn't think it is an L78, from everything I have read it is, what do you guys think?

According to the source I have CTY makes it a 1970 L78 block correct for either a Chevelle or Camaro.I assume it's got four bolt mains?

It should also have rectangular port heads. The L34 would have oval port heads.

Does it have a VIN stamp down near the oil filter, in the rough cast iron area?
CTY is definitely a Chevelle code for an L78 with T400 trans.

I sold the heads long ago, but they were rectangle ports

CTY is a 70 code...could be Chevelle or Nova...there are no known L78/TH400 Camaros that I'm aware of. Nova engine would have "W" in the VIN and the stamp would be on the front pad near the CTY. Your code is probably "T 11 29 CTY" T = Tonowanda engine plant...11-29 = Nov. 29/1969 CTY = L78/TH400

There were fewer L78 Chevelles produced compared to the Novas....also the L78 Chevelles were phased out prior to the intro of the 454....that date seems close to the end of production. Good luck...wilma

I thought I remember reading somewhere that production on the L78 stopped in September or October of 1970 ? If this guy doesn't buy it, I am going to list it on ebay and I'd like to not look like an idiot by posting the wrong info.

*EDIT*
I just re-read your post, Nov 69 would make sense, thanks!
