After 4 years of letting my car sit i have thought about restarting the project. At one time the car was a malibu with the sweep dash now it has the ss dash with gauges.

In the time before the ss dash i bought the front light assembly wiring and i noticed a tag that says 1970 chevelle with warning lights. Is the harness really that different between the two, a malibu and an ss ?

i also replaced the engine harness before the dash replacement would that be different to. now the harness is a hei harness and the dash harness in the car is of the old style not the new style fuses which i would believe would control a hei engine harness.

thx for any help maybe one day i can finish this car

in the works 1957 belair wagon:D, 1965 c10 death machine:wacko:, 1970 chevelle:hurray:, 1965 c30 wrecker:p

The harness is only different between cars with factory gauges vs. warning lights. Being a Malibu or SS car does not matter. The only difference is the wiring for the amp gauge which is not included in the harness for cars with factory gauges.

The sweep dash harness is different then the SS or round gauge cluster. The HEI won't matter with the older fuse block. You should be able to get a good used harness thru Ebay.

Just keep in mind that a used harness will be 40 years old. Chances are, the insulation will be brittle and cracked - not to mention that all of the connectors would probably need a good cleaning. If it were me, I wouldn't take a chance on an electrical fire if I had the option and the money to go with a new harness. Admittedly, a new harness is expensive (over $400 bucks) but it sure would buy a lot of peace of mind.
