: Weatherstripping to thick?
Jc71ss Jan 20th, 10, 10:41 AM I bought some weatherstripping from ground-up and noticed that it was thicker than stock which I'm sure is normal after years of hot and cold. My problem seems to be that the stripping is almost to thick and is keeping my windows from closing all the way. After I installed them I put the windows up and have left them alone for about a week now in hopes they would mold. I was curious if anyone knew if this would work of if theres another issue here, or if anyones had the same problem. I've also noticed my trunk doesn't sit flush anymore with the new stripping on it
Raven1 Jan 20th, 10, 12:32 PM Must be Soffseal, should settle in about 450 years. Metro is better. Took a long time for the SS to settle on my 67 and it doesn't look too cute anyway. You can close the doors now with the touch of a finger but the fit and appearance is disappointing. GM trunk weatherstripping is available but it's the second design...no string.
OLDED Jan 20th, 10, 3:18 PM It will get better, faster in warm weather. Keep the doors and lids shut and they will conform sloowly in several weeks.
Jc71ss Jan 20th, 10, 4:01 PM Thanks for the imput I'll keep an eye on them and see if it molds
harleythumper Jan 20th, 10, 4:14 PM I had the same isssue with trunk. Switched to Metro. Problem solved.
crazy canuck Jan 20th, 10, 9:41 PM I can't believe all the positive comments about metro,I absolutely hate that crap. After doing dozens of camaro's,novas, and chevelles to just to name a few even a mopar or 2the metro stuff is always stiffer.Every metro trunk rubber I have used makes the trunk stick up and make it hard to close, same for the roof and door seals.I have had better luck with sofseal,I have always wondered about steele rubber products. The only thing you can do is pull your strikers in all the way and close your doors and leave it in the sun on the hottest day of the year. This will help shape them to fit your car,or do it before you park it for winter storage in the garage.

Well I've been duped too. I have only used NOS or Soffseal and with the hype of Metro I made the mistake of believing it is superior. My 67 did close with soffseal, just not right away. And the mold quality on the door was not good. Now I'm at a loss at whose product is hands down the best.
duanec Dec 14th, 11, 1:00 PM not to jack your post but I need thicker than normal window seals.
The body job that was done left the windows so that they wont seal up tight when rolled up. panels have been fitted as best the can but we believe it is due to improper installation of the door skins. Anyone have ideas?
chevele72 Dec 14th, 11, 3:41 PM I didn't have any problems with fit and finish of the Soft Seal, this was 12 years ago so there wasnt too many to choose from. Still to this day you have to shut the doors firmly or they won't shut all the way. Trunck is fine and windows seal nice, just door slamin'.

Adjust the window stops.
duanec Dec 24th, 11, 7:43 AM I wish adjusting the window stop was all it was. We did that but it seems the real problem is when the body guy put new door skins on and when you look at the window will from abouve it starts out at the fron with a "normal" gap but as you get back towards the door jamb it's almost a half inch wider. We;ve adjusted the crap out of this side of the car and just can't close the gap toward the top of the window. The onbly option is fix the door skin (not really an option) or put extra thick weather stripping at the roofline jamb.
So, if anyone has a suggestion on thicker than normal weather stripping, I'm listening...Thanks!
