My 66 Malibu has no hood spear, nor any signs of holes filled in. I am certain it is a factory hood and not a repo.
Did a Malibu ever NOT get a spear, or do I have a 300 Sedan hood on my Malibu? (yep, the whole car has had a poor repaint)

The very early 66 chevelles only had two hoods, a malibu hood that had the holes for the spear to which they added to louvers on top for the SS cars and a non-malibu hood that had no holes for the spear.
Then later they had 3 hoods, the SS hood with reseased areas for the louvers, the malibu hood with the holes for the spear, and the non-malibu hood without the holes for the spear.
Also the underside of the later hoods is different in that the two outside large holes are not there to give the hood more strenth and not bend so easily.
You could have an GM hood that was replaced somewhere down the line as LOTS of the early hoods got replaced because the early ones bend by the spring area.

I looked and the 2 outside large areas areas are not open, so I would then conclude that since it's a Malibu; it has had it's hood dealer replaced at some point.
Cool info James  Thanx!

Check your build date, if its a sep, oct, or Nov date then the original hood probably got bent do to the inherent design of the early hoods. Would have been dealer replaced. Or someother issue and the hood was replaced with the non-malibu hood for some reason.
