Is it possible to change the color of a steering wheel? I would be going from gold to black. Is this a do it yourself job or one that should be handled by the experts?

Its definitely possible to change the color. In fact, many 60's vintage wheels were manufactured in black and then painted the appropriate interior color.

Your best bet is to paint the wheel with something that can hold up to the wear. A good choice is a urethane paint with a hardener, which is going to require a spray gun to apply. Using a can of spray paint is probably not going to hold up very well. Good luck!
