Ok, Stuck with 2.73 gears on my 71 10 bolt. I dont have the budget for a highdollar rear right now. Can I do anything with this carrier? It doesnt have to be posi - just maybe a better gear. Thanks Dan

Mike Jan 18th, 10, 2:10 PM 8.5" 10 bolt ? You can go 2.73+up numerically on that carrier. Here's the carrier number's so you can see which you have: 10 bolt 8.2" ED32118 2 2.73:1 & down 10 bolt 8.2" EDB30116 3 3.08:1 & up 10 bolt 8.5" 410409N 2 2.56:1 & down 10 bolt 8.5" 410408N 3 2.73:1 & up big gear head Jan 18th, 10, 2:15 PM A 3.08 or 3.36 are going to be about the only cheap gears that you might find. These were factory installed gears. Not many 8.2 10 bolt rear ends got anything better than that from the factory. You are also going to need the differential that they go on. Your 2.73 gears are on a 2 series differential and you are going to need a 3 series. Check ebay for some 3.08 or 3.36 gears.
