I'm been trying to find a 12 Bolt for my 1970 442 and I thought all 12 Bolts were
the same, but I can't figure out what these are......are these shocks ??
I got a lead on a 12 Bolt and now I'm wondering if there are different kinds.
If those aren't shocks.....what are they? The guy says something about
UPPER CONTROL ARMs.....but not sure if he's talking about these or not.

Those are aftermarket adjustable upper control arms that are just replacements for the stock upper control arms. Chevy 12 bolts are different from Olds 12 bolt rear ends. The rear end in the picture is a Chevy 12 bolt. Steve

Someone told me before that all 12 Bolts were interchangable between 68-72 A-bodies.
IS this incorrect information??
I got a guy getting rready to pull a 12 bolt for me out of his '69 Chevelle to go in my 70' 442
and I have to be sure it's going to work before he does this. Can anyone confirm it will
work or not ??
Several members on Nastyz28 told me it would swap fine.....now I'm not sure.
I don't think my Olds has these upper control arms......are they there instead of shocks or just an additional measure ??
I see this rear end has the UCA locations too, but it looks like shock mounts in the front.
Is this interchangable with my car or no ??:(

a 12 bolt out of a Chevelle will interchange just fine- its just not "correct" as in, was never done by the factory- but many people don't care.
that rear pictured appears to be an earlier model w/ bolt on spring perches- better verify what it is for sure before you pay for it.
As was said above, there are chevy 12 bolts- and Buick/Olds/Pontiac 12 bolt rears- the BOP rears have a 12 bolt cover, but still a 10 bolt ring gear. It will physically bolt in your car, but they are not the same rear. The 12bolt BOP rear is still a good peice as its an 8.5" ring gear with bolt in axles- but its not as desireable as a chevy 12 bolt.
as for the upper arms- its as the fellow said above- the red arms are simply adjustable aftermarket arms. They are not shocks- they do the same function the stamped steel original arms did.

Thanks
Freddie (Big Gear Head) confirmed I could use it as well on Nastyz28.
I was freakin out for a second there thinking I might be getting the wrong thing here.
I'll have to be sure to see pics of where the mounts are to confirm.
THanks , and yeah, I realized I put this in the wrong section. lol :beers:
