Hello,
I am doing a frame off restoration on a numbers matching 70 Chevelle 396-350. My question is the original colr of the car is code 58 Autumn Gold but I am thinking of changing it to another 70 Chevelle color. Would this hurt the value of the car?

IMO, if it's a numbers matching car, yes...it would.

Here is my .02. I'm not so certain it will hurt the value on a not so popular color, matching numbers or not. In most cases, I think it will only help if you decide to sell later.

IMO If you are doing a factory correct restoration on a number matching car then changing to a non-correct color will definately hurt the value, even if the car is an undesirable (to some) color. On the other hand, if you are making additional modifications to the car then color change won't make a difference and shouldn't affect the value.

Two words...Leave it!

It's a beautiful color combo.

Check out Gary S. LS6 car that's Autumn Gold. This car and color is absolutely stunning.

OK I'm in the same boat. Do you really think my 1966 Malibu 327 lemonwood yellow with factory black console interior is worth more or would sell faster than if I paint it black on black?

The real question is, will an unpopular existing colour hurt the value more than a popular colour. I'd like a newer Corvette some day. In looking through Kijiji, I don't even bother looking at the ones that are a colour that I don't like. Autumn gold is rather nice. We had a '67 Malibu in that colour and it still looks very nice when we see at cruise nights. We had a bright gold, for lack of the real colour name, on a '72 and we never did get used to it. It was a very well done car, so we overlooked the paint. In the case of autumn gold, I'd stick with the colour especially since the car is an SS.
