this isnt your typical.. what headers fit best question...

i got to thinking about other cars that have LSx's swapped in to them and what they do for headers, especially on a budget.

RX7 and fox body guys tend to go with 351 fox body swap headers and cut the flanges off and weld on LSx flanges.. see where im going?

i dont have a BB nor an LSx, so this is just a thought..

has anyone thought of or tried to use LSx header flanges on 1 7/8 (if they even make them) BB headers, or maybe SB headers for our cars?

im thinking when i go lsx it would be nice to save 300 bucks and get a pair of 90$ summit headers and do the lsx flanges.

anyone have any other ideas?

thanks

The reason most do that with the Fords is because suprisingly or not depending on who you talk to, the LS platform shares quite a few of the major dimensions with various Ford motors. With that said the even spacing of the Ford exhaust ports along with it being almost dead on to the LS its a no brainer for Ford swaps.

SBC headers dont have a chance cause the center exhaust ports are right next to each other. The BBC spacing I believe is way too wide to work either.

So if you have a Ford and want an LS in it with headers that fit like stock then your in luck, beyond that youre screwed and have to make something else fit.

If you go over to www.ls1tech.com and do a search, you will find that many people use a big block header and weld on the ls flange. I've seen pictures of the final product recently, but couldn't find them again to post.

I guess I stand corrected. I didnt know that the BBC tube spacing was inline with the LS ports. Ill have to look on there to find the thread about it and see what was necessary to actually make it fit.

Agreed. The BBC to LSx conversion is considered easier than the SBC but the 302/351W is much closer. due to valve order, deck height etc.

If you want a LSx header in an A-body on the cheap Pacesetter 4th gen f-body LTs looks to be your best option:
http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/conversions-hybrids/1227982-body-headers-option.html

Stainlessworks does offer a 1 7/8" A-body LSx LT for A-bodies on their site but I have not read of anyone using it. Typically their work is good quality.

I have a set of S&P headers for an LS in a 2nd gen Camaro that I'm planning on using in my '67 Malibu. All indications so far show that they'll fit.
Picked them up cheap too...
