What is the best primer to simulate the old red oxide primer on the inside parts. I was contimplating using the Rust-Oleum Rusty Metal Primer, over my interior metal parts, inside doors, etc., after blasting with bare metal showing.
Should be like this 40 year old factory color: http://www.chevelles.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=93&pictureid=3013

Thank you.

That pic was taken after 2 hours so it wasn't fully cured yet, plus there was a light shining on it. It's the closest off the shelf product I have found so far.

What about DZ7 Red Oxide over the DP if you really want to be anal about the hue. The DP will perform it's corrosion resistance job but the DZ will hit the target color better.

OK-I'm curious......
After the PPG primer, what are you topcoating it with?

Tom was following factory procedures so he was just letting the body overspray land as it may. Not overrestoring and painting the entire underside black. (If I recall correctly)

Thanks, Scott-
I should have clarified, I was referring to the underside. I once had a 72, and was surprised to see the red primer. But, back to my question, after spraying the epoxy primer, what would you recommend for a durable yet inexpensive- (or is that an oxymoron ) coating. I bought a 2 gallon can of Lizard skin Sound product- not the ceramic-(got an absolute steal on it- and was going to go that route over the epoxy. Sound feasible?

The car in the pictures is an Arlington built 70 so the red primer is all that will remain. Being an epoxy based primer/sealer, the Red Oxide I sprayed will not be top coated. I plan on shooting the rest of the car in that red sealer (inside cab, firewall, cowl, etc then follow the factory procedure for painting the cowl/firewall black and painting the car.

I could not tell you about LIzard Skin. I only like the factory appearance or all black with nicely prepared metal. But if the floors are hammered and hideous I guess a textured surface may be better.

Good idea. So I wonder what Baltimore used over the red primer (underneath side of floors) 1969, mine has old nasty undercoating junk also on the frame. But it did stop the rust. Semi Gloss Black probably look best, like those BJ under carriage shots.
