I would get your money back from Ebay (non paying bidder) and list it in the Free Classifieds here. I bet as cheap as it went on Ebay you could ask a few more dollars and still sell it quick. If you decide to list it again there is a special section on the free classifieds listing for Ebay auction ads. www.chevelles.com/classifieds

If it had been a 68 I would have had to bid :D

Good Luck

This also happened to me. I sold my chevelle once on ebay and never got a call or email from the high bidder the entire time the auction was open. A day after it ended the buyer responded sorry times are tough and I cant afford your car. It took 3-4 weeks to get ebay to give me my money back since the car didnt sell. And on top of that im sure you all know there is no negative feedback anymore so you really cant do anything to them. Ebay is not a good way to sell your car anymore.

e-bay doesn't owe you anything. people have a lot of misconception of what e-bay is. all your are doing is paying for an ad. if nobody would have bid on it, you would have to pay anyway.

example, you pay for an ad in the paper, some ass gasket calls and says he's on the way with $, then you never hear from him again, do you think the paper is going to reimburse you? not... you are renting space, simple and clear. if somebody on c/l keeps flagging your ad, do you think c/l will compensate you? again...not.

now, that said, you can contact e-bay and tell them the history of what happened, and they may be able to broker something from the dead beat. also relisting fees are usually discounted.

look, there is a lot i don't like about e-bay, but you hear so many misconceptions of what it is, that it makes it sound a lot worse than it really is.

there are other options, but it's hard to get world exposure at the price e-bay affords... you are not hiring e-bay to sell your car, you are buying ad space.

I think getting stiffed would have been more like he gave you a bogus bank check and you took it.

Your argument makes sense when comparing apples to apples, but ebay is different.

There is a listing fee and a final auction fee which is based on the sale price of the auction. So if the buyer flakes you can get your final auction fee back, due to none paying bidder. Just send a non paying bidder case to ebay and they refund the final auction fee money.

No transaction = No Final Auction Fee. Usually a relist to non selling item is free.

I disagree. It is supposed to be a legally binding agreement to purchase what has been bid on. It is a virtual version of any of the televised auctions we see, without the lame commentary. Ebay takes credit card info to open an account, or at least used to, and should enforce a penalty to those who abuse the site and the sellers. Its this very garbage that has many going back to free classifieds.

I had the same thing happen and what is not fair is that as a seller you
can not leave neg feedback only positve. My guy ran me around for a
week with promises to come get the car so I lost time of work and this
guy never showed. At the end he said his car didn't sell so he couldn't
buy mine, ya right.

I remember your cars auction from the other thread that was posted last week. The blue 69 Malibu with buckets/console. I thought the buyer got a good price on it from the pictures you had.

Im thinking these kind of sour transactions have gone way up since Ebay stopped sellers from leaving negatives. Although they had to do something, to many guys leaving bad feedback both ways. Deadbeats were either buying or selling and not fulfilling thier end of the deal and leaving bad feedback on for a good ebayer. Either they backed out of an auction they won or they didnt ship a paid for item, or it just wasnt as the other described in the auction. Not that, thats what happened here. Its just that I think thats what it may have come to with ebay. Had to put a stop to the negative comment war somehow. With this being the way it is now, I can see some bidders out there doing this because there isnt any recourse from it if they dont go through with it. Nothing left holding them accountable.

If it were me, I would relist the car back on ebay and take another shot at the sale. I would also block that ebayer that bid on your car from bidding on it again. After all, you did pay ebay to list it the first time and it doesnt cost anything to do it again.

Thanks for all the comments...Looks like I might sell it to someone outside of Ebay (Actually bid on the car but didn't win it) Seems like a very nice guy so I'm hoping it will work out...He's picking it up tonight....I just hate when your very honest and up front and you meet these type of people (Deadbeat ebayers) that don't respect the hobby of keeping these cars alive....

Why not send a 2nd chance offer to the runner up bidder?

You can surely email the 2nd, 3rd and 4th bidders and see if they want it.

Car is clean. Buyer was getting a hellava deal!!! I just sold my '69 Malibu for 8K and it wasn't half as nice as yours. Mine had plenty bondo, bubbling paint, ratty interior, etc... and I disclosed everything.

Best of luck with new buyer.

Yes, For the price I think it is priced right..It could use New Quarters , A Right side Rocker and New Patch panels On fenders Or new Fenders, and a prepaint......But for 8500 reserve ....What do you expect.......I'm thinking of just doing all of the above and keep the car....

I didnt read all of the replies so excuse me if this has already been said.
Ebay will allow you to relist the car for free since the buyer didnt come thru.
Ebay sucks and it was all nothing but wasted time..... yay, time to try it again!
I had a guy do the same thing to me on a Caddy I listed on Ebay. I gave the guy so much crap I ended up demanding $300 within a 48 hour time period from him for my aggravtion.... I got it.
I'm tired of people

one of the reasons stopped selling there, along with the drop thru the floor in sales.

That's the most rediculous of all their rules. Sure, there are some bannana heads who go over the top with the negative, but now, if you get stiffed, it's possitive or nothing. Crazy.

The whole feedback system is flawed anyway. I had several sellers email me and say "we leave positive feedback as soon as we receive it".

So.... If I leave neutral or negative feedback because they sold me a POS, were not willing to make it right, or took a month to ship it, I get a negative in retaliation even though I paid immmediately at the end of the auction via their prefered method. As a buyer, what else am I required to do to get positive feedback?

It had gotten to the point that people were only giving positive feedback or none at all which made everyone look like they had 100% positive feedback. Not accurate at all.

Does this car look familiar? I just bought from the guy you sold it to. I guess he just bought it to flip. Too bad I didn't see it when you had it, we both would have probably come out of the deal better off. By the way, I sent you a pm. Thanks.
