Why does one use a bolt and the other a stud like bar ? The bottom one is off my car and supposedly bent, top one i bought online to replace mine. Can i simply switch the bar when i do the bushings ? can it be used either way ?

The originals from my 68 have the cross shaft like your new one, Maybe that is just one more thing that changed from 67 to 68.

The cross bar on the upper one is aftermarket (replacement), the lower one is original. You can get aftermarkets like the originals with the bolt, not exact but close.

I belive they are interchangable. For what its worth.. I just removed one from my 68 on the passenger side and one like the lower from my drivers side.

Oldsmobiles have the upper shafts with the nuts on them also. The frame itself is side specific, the shafts are interchangeable.
