I came across 1 post that said they do not use the stock oil system on this motor. I am just about ready to put mine in and wanted to know if anyone had a bad experience with the stock system. I am going to use the 4qt plus1 GM pan as to not create any issues with the header fit .

The only bad experience I had with a ZZ502 (same as your ZZ454) was using the 4 quart pan. The car was more of a street and strip car and it had issues when running the 1/4 mile with that stock style pan. It was like the pick-up was being un-covered and there was cavitation and it had oil pressure issues while under hard full throttle conditions. I didn't like the idea of removing the windage tray. But if you aren't going to really beat on your car, that stock pan should work well for you. I have installed 3 ZZ502's in Chevelles and there was no header issues with any of them. Both Chevelles ran Hooker Competion 2455's and the other one had Hedman 2" Elite series.
