I bought a reman master cylinder last week after the other one was leaking brake fluid out the master cylinder bore. I bench bleed the new one and every thing was ok. So I installed it on my car and while I was bleeding the brakes I noticed brake fluid again coming out of the boot that holds the push rod.
my question is what is the matter with these master cylinders? can they be fixed? I am I doing something wrong?
My car has manual brakes. 1st master cylinder from master power brakes, 2nd from 77 malibu from local parts store.

Sounds like you've had bad luck with the reman. MC's.
Any chance you just didn't clean out the brake fluid when you changed the MC and residue was just left behind?
Are the brakes even functioning correctly with the new MC?

DC,
I've got manual brakes on my '68 and went through 3 before I got a good one. Sometimes, it just happens.

I would buy a new unit from a reputable manufacturer. How many times has the master core been through a rebuilder in its 30 year life?? It may have already have had 2 or 3 rebuild cycles. I feel it makes sense to buy a new item that our lives depend on. I have sent many correct orig masters to Stainless Steel Brakes to be stainless sleeved. Every SSB master I have used has been great, but at a much higher cost. I have one that has been on a car for 15 years now with not a hint of moisture on it.

I did clean up after the other mc. The brakes wouldn't even hold pressure when bleeding. Also all the parts stores only sell reman mcs' for the one I want to use (77 malibu) that's if they can even find one to order for me. I was even told that even new master cylinders are not 100% perfect. So I ghess I'll try to find a lucky that will work.
