View Full Version : Installation of Bushings for Front Control Arms Dan the Man Aug 23rd, 02, 1:33 PM Are the bushings for the front contrl arms pressed in or can I remove and install them by hand? Going with PST Poly kit Thanks Ed Kish Aug 23rd, 02, 10:29 PM To the top Dan,I'm waiting to install my pst bushings too.I did get a ball joint hand press from autozone (looks like a lg c clamp) and was wondering if I could do the bushings with it? I do know some have air chisled out there old bushings and taken in the a-arms to have the new bushings pressed in.I wonder if we could freeze the bushings and heat up the a-arms and greese the snot out of the bushings and try to press them in with a bence vise?...has anyone tried any of thease things please chime in.Thanks Ed. MAXX2 Aug 24th, 02, 11:31 AM Had our front and rear control arms beadblasted and powder coated (Removed bushings first). Then we cleaned out the bushing areas with a drill and a small drum sander attached to a 1/2" drill. Made a simple oak wood spacer to keep the arms from bending, "Froze" the bushings for 24+ hours per PST recommendations, greased up all areas real well, and lightly hammered them in. "PERFECTO!" Probably wouldn't cost that much to have them pressed in by a shop, just don't know the dollar amount. ------------------ Team Members Forever #341 Richard, Judy, MAXX2 '69 Elke (Frame Off); GM HO 350/330-Mildly Ported Vortec Heads-Manley Severe Duty SS 2.02/1.60 Valves, Comp Cams Full Roller Package (Magnum)-Custom Grind CS 3315/3316 HR112-.510/.520 Lift, Edelbrock Air-Gap W/750 Performer Manual Choke-Performer 100 HP NOS, March Pulleys, 4L60 (Non Computer) W/Lokar Shifter, 12 Bolt Posi. charbilly2001 Aug 25th, 02, 11:04 AM Cost me $90...Bushings and lower ball joints. chevyjim Aug 25th, 02, 7:59 PM It just cost me $110.00 labor to have all old bushings and balljoints removed and new parts installed. Having done it myself before, I feel it was well worth the money. oneblue396 May 19th, 03, 9:04 AM I live in the Washington DC metro area. Just had mine done. It cost $180.00 here. I called a lot of shops before settling on one. They are all pretty expensive 'round here. |
