Some guys drill bleed holes in thermostats to help with air locks etc. What size of hole or holes would you drill?

I have seen comments which vary widely about what size and number of holes to use, if any, but nothing really definitive. I want to do this myself and will probably drill two 1/8" holes 180 degrees apart, or maybe use slightly smaller holes...haven't decided.
