Has anyone used the new drum brake conversion for rear brakes that Master Power Brakes is selling? I'm thinking about converting my rear standard drums to their new heavy duty setup. Just looking for some input.

Haven't seen that kit.

Why not use GM parts for a '93-'97 F-body if you are looking to upgrade? You can do it cheaper than most kits out there on the market.

They have the new kit up on their website as well as in magazines. It comes with larger drums 11" diameter and better shoes for about $300.00 about half the cost of a rear disc setup.

Oh that kit!

You can do that really really really cheap.

I think BC did that swap for less than $100.

These brakes come on mid '70's Monte Carlos and other clones.

Not to sound stupid but whats BC? When you did yours did they give you everything new including the larger wheel cylinders? If I can save a couple hundred that would be great.

He posts here on occasions. Do a search and you might turn up his posts on the subject. That kit is nice, but with a little elbow grease you quickly find out they make some $$$ off of it.

I'm in the middle of upgrading my rear 9.5 inch drums to the 11 inch ones, on my 69 cutlass. I got my backing plates from a boneyard off a 76 monte carlo. I just found out today that the brake cylinder is the same on my 69 small brake system as was on the 76 monte 11 inch system, so I won't need new cylinders. However, I will need a new spring kit as they look larger on the monte, and I will have to keep the self adjusting brake levers, etc that I got from the salvage yard. In Canada new 11 drums cost 73 bucks each, so with shoes and drums and springs, I hope to be under 250 cdn. I have wagner part numbers for the 11 drums and the 11x2 inch brake shoes if you want them. The 11 inch backing plates look so much bigger than the 9.5's. I'm hoping it will be worth the cost and effort.

correction on the above post. I just came back from the shop. The 9.5 inch brake cylinders are not the same as the 76 monte 11 inch ones. they are a bit smaller. I think the 11 inch rear brakes take a 15\16 inch bore cylinder, while the smaller rear brakes on my cutlass were 7\8 bore. So back to parts store to spend more money.
