I'm new to Chevelles, just bought a possible 69 SS/396 car, trying to figure out from clues what the car was from the factory. Does a yellow sticker on the rear coil spring with a BE on it mean anything significant? Thanks for the help.......JS

That's just the spring tag. Different codes mean different spring rates etc.

You might try posting over in the restoration forums to ID what code means what info

one quick way
are there two lines going to the fuel pump (probably real)
then if rear quarters are original do the have holes that may have been welded shut where malibu was mounted (if so a clone)
many other things to check
since SS was an option in 69 it will require a lot more though to be sure

It does have the two fuel lines, front disk brakes with proportioning valve, SS hood, all the correct eblems in the interior, not sure about the holes in the quarter panel, all indications so far are it's real. smile.gif

another quick check is the front parking lights
are they surrounded by stainless
either way the two fuel lines are for either a 325 or 350 horse 396
i don't think any other engines used this setup

Yes, it has the stainless around the parking lights, you could only get that on the SS???

sounds like a lot of the right stuff
call chevy 1-800-222-1020
give them your vin and ask them to mail you a restoration packet
there is a lot of info in there
last one i got was free but rumor has it there is a small fee now (doubt if it could be much though)

Excuse my ignorance, but I assumed that Chevelles were just like Camaros, and there were no records available from GM to verify authenticity, unless they were built in Canada. Are you telling me I can call this number, and by the VIN#, they can basically tell me how my car came off the assembly line?

No, but they will send you a thick packet with all kinds of neat info about your model year. I have one. What is the color code for your car?
