If it said for disc brakes, then you'll be ok.

Dave. No offence meant, but I had to learn this the hard way in my younger days. Did you grease the outer race of the bearings as well? If not they may be noisy when making a turn.

yes, thankfully, I did grease the outer part of race. thanks, dave

i went back today and tightened bolt on each wheel one "notch". Now they are no longer "finger tight". I had a friend tell me today, better to be a "bit" tight then too loose.

Given this advise, since I must install cotter pin, I have only one choice, that is to tighten one "notch" then insert pin.

What I did was actually tighten with wrench 2-3 "notches", then spin wheel, then back off bolt. Then redo process 3-4 times, trying to work bearings in place to "fit". After working bearings like this, I finally took bolt one notch tighter then "finger" tight, inserted pin...and done. Have not driven car yet after today's adjustment. Dave

Dave. Tightening the nut and then spin the wheel and then backing off the nut, will not be much use for the next tightening sequence. I would suggest: tightening the nut, spin the wheel, back off the nut a bit, spin the wheel again and then give it a next sequence.

Over tightening the nut is worse than have it a bit loose. Remember the bearing will extend a little when getting warm.

The manual states to tighten (a number of times) and finally back off until the cotter pin fits. That's the way I do it all the time and is my advise to you. After driving the car this way a little while you can easily recheck the play. Jack up the front, grab the wheel top and bottom and push back and forth. Very little play, to none may be felt. Then check the nut.
