I think my 70 had a tall spindle conv. done to it in it's past life. I've got a pair of spindles off a 72 that are regular chevelle disc spindles. if I were to change it back to the chevelle spindles what would be involved? I have no idea what spindles are on the car right now. they are 10 1/2 rotors, but the rotors rub against the mounting bolts if I try to use them on the chevelle spindles. Jim

You will need to change the upper and lower ball joints, outer tie rods and of course the rotors and calipers.

I'm not convinced you had a tall spindle upgrade done yet. I would think that if someone went through all that trouble for a conversion that they would also upgrade the spindles to 11 or 12 inch minimum.
Is the reason you want to go back to stock because of the problem you are having? or you just want to go back to stock?
It may be an opportunity to upgrade to 12 inch rotors. Post pics on your problem. Maybe someone can figure it out.

Jim the tall spindle is a lot taller than stock. In the picture the tall is on the left, G body center and stock Chevelle on the right.

actually the spindle looks like the one in the middle, trhe reason I'm switching it around is that a few of us went in on a parts car, turning 4 cars into 3 I'm getting the body and frame and GTAmn is getting the discs for his 70 I was going to just pop the spindle off my 72 parts car which matches the right spindle, and put the rotors and calipers on it, but the rotors rub the bolt heads and the seal is bigger than the 72s, If the G body spindle will work I'll ask him if he wants to go with it or find a stock setup, Is there any drawbacks with the g body set up? any info is appreciated. As on the F body (tall spindle) the upper and lower ball joints and the outer tie rod end would have been changed to make it fit. I am in the minority when I say the G body set up is a good low cost way to get disc brakes. Most will tell you the rotors and calipers are to small for good braking.
I would be happy to drive over and take a look at what you have and bs a little.

If going through the hassle and expense of swapping to discs (even if you already have most parts), why go for a smaller set of brakes? I would assume that by going to discs, that you are interested in better braking than the stock drums... Aren't the G-body discs even smaller than "stock" A-body discs? If that size was adequate, then wouldn't GM have done that and saved money? When building thousands of cars, they could have saved alot of money going with smaller brakes IF they were adequate... Apparently they were not...

can you tell me what the rotor diameter is on a g body? I may just leave it alone for now, as I'm waiting on the title from the guy I got the car from and after I get it running I can alway put the spindles and suspension off the 72,64 elky, If we get a chance I'd like you to look at the setup I got, Weekends are kinda booked up right now but I'll keep checking out these posts. or E-mail me.
