: best place to buy Baer brakes?
69boo307 Jul 17th, 03, 7:58 AM anyone have any recomendations, besides directly from Baer?
with the front suspension I have, I don't think I can just get a 'canned' kit, I need someone that knows what they're talking about to hook me up with the right parts.
72SSAbody Jul 17th, 03, 1:22 PM Brian,
I do believe Detroit Speed and Engineering (DSE) offers the best price for the Baer setups. You are going to have to wait though as according to the guys on www.pro-touring.com (http://www.pro-touring.com) the Baers are on back order for about 4 weeks :(
Any progress on the truck arm rear suspension for your '69?
Joe
69boo307 Jul 17th, 03, 1:25 PM 4 weeks? ouch! is that just from DSE, or from Baer direct as well?
I have my front suspension totally installed, just awaiting the hub and brakes, and everything is in order to install the rear suspension, I've just gotta make arrangements with a welder. Finished new body bushings this past weekend. It needs brakes, wheels/tires, and a tranny, plus a bunch of odd and end things like a new fuel tank and misc. lines, and it'll be ready to go.
I have less work to do, than I've done smile.gif
69boo307 Jul 17th, 03, 2:02 PM I called up DSE, and was not thrilled with what I heard. Apparently the kits ONLY come assembled with spindles, because they modify the spindles for their brackets.
I'm not sure what to do now... I have brand new 'b-body' spindles installed on the car already, the front suspension is completely assembled, except for hub and brakes. Guess I shoulda looked into this sooner.
The Baer GT kit essentially has C5 vette calipers...I think someone on here did a 'homemade' version of that?
69boo307 Jul 17th, 03, 2:13 PM ok, back to the drawing board...maybe I'll attempt the 'homemade' version, I know someone here has a well documented site on the C5 13" brake conversion.
Clint44 Jul 17th, 03, 3:00 PM You could always take off your new B-body spindles and sell them, then purchase the Baer set-up.
I don't think any of Baer's A-body kits use C5 calipers. Talked to Ben O'Connor at Baer about this and he said it might happen in the future.
69boo307 Jul 17th, 03, 3:02 PM hmm...true

That was actually me and I'm looking for another person to test these brackets out. If you are interested e-mail me.
From what I've seen the Baer's don't use C5 components. They use C4 components. And that's why I went with the swap for C5 components. I've hung around the Ford camp (C4 components are used on '01 Bullitt Mustangs, '03 Mach 1 Mustangs and '94-'03 Cobras) too long to know that under harsh conditions the C4 components aren't the best for holding up given repeated track abuse (cracks and warping occur frequently).
Ford finally got their butts in gear and utilized a Brembo designed rotor in '99 to alleviate some of the short comings of the original rotor design that was first seen on the C4, but IMO to little to late!
Also, the C4 PBR's have slightly smaller pistons than the C5 calipers, thus more clamping force from the C5 calipers...
BUT I think you should first realize that the iron Moraine calipers on your car are capable of generating more clamping force than even the C5 calipers are due to their huge piston area. Not to mention they are very cheap.
Usernames "BC" and "airrj" have a pretty cool swap using cut down rotors as hubs, C3 12" rotors, tall spindles with Suburban iron Moraine calipers. I am very jealous of this setup and my next vehicle will have this setup on it! And you can run 15" wheels to boot!
Let me know if you are interested in the brackets.

Revs Hi Jul 18th, 03, 12:45 AM I ordered a 13" Track and 12" Touring system from Kyle at DSE today( cross drilled, slotted and zinc washed rotors, adj. prop valve ect). I wasn't too thrilled with the 4-5 week wait either. My 66 is sitting apart waiting for my upper control arm mounts to be fabbed on the Dana 60 rear.
The price I paid from DSE was under retail, Kyle gave the best price he could. I don't think Baer gives it's dealers much margin to work with. My systems will be drop shipped from Baer. I would buy from DSE even if the price is alittle higher, very good people!!
69boo307 Jul 18th, 03, 1:15 PM Joe, I sent you email. give me a shout at brian.english@sas.com.
I might be up for giving your method a go. I'm already planning on using camaro rear discs, the vette front discs would match up nicely, and it would stop as good as a Baer kit.
the question is, can I do it with manual brakes, or would I have to get a booster?
MarkM Jul 18th, 03, 4:00 PM What is this Moraine caliper? Is it just a cast iron single piston caliper from a suburban?
I used '72 truck calipers on my 13" rotor conversion. Turned out well.
