Hey guys I just installed a Front Disc brake conversion kit on my 1970, it came with everything needed incuding the master cylinder and power booster. I installed everything and had just finished bleeding the brakes (did it twice to make sure everything looked good) as i had foot on the brake about to put her in reverse I heard a bang under the hood and the pedal went completely to the floor. Under the hood I saw that the booster had split right donw the middle. Has anyone very heard of this or know what could have happened, does this sound like a manufactires default because I dont see how I could have donte it wrong. Thans guys

Since the booster sucks instead of blows, the only thing that makes sense is that somehow raw gas got into the booster, then a slight misfire or backfire ignited the gas causing the booster to blow instead of suck. smile.gif
Take a close look at where and how you have plumbed the vacuum line from the intake to the booster.
Based on the blowing instead of sucking business, you might be hard pressed prove product defect.

If you look at a stock factory booster on most cars, there's a small black canister in line with the booster vacuum line. It's a charcoal filter that I always assumed was there to keep gas fumes out of the booster to prevent it from messing up the diaphram. I never heard of a booster blowing like that though. Got any pics? smile.gif

Sk8,
I saw the aftermath of this once before. The booster didn't explode but it basically spilt in two. My buddy took apart the booster on his '69 to have it powder coated. He said that when he took the booster apart he had to "twist" it to take the cover off (at which point the large spring inside shot across the garage). Apparently when he put it back together he didn't do something right because when he stepped on the brake the first time the booster ended up in two halves again!
Did your booster housing literally explode or did it come apart in the center where the "seam" is?

It came apart were the seem is, which makes me think it was a rpobem in the assembly process

Sk8,
That seems like it would be the cause of the problem to me as well!
Good luck,

I almost fell on the floor when I read the title of this post!
I hope you've already contacted the vendor. If not, do so immediately. Most vendors are understanding and won't want an unhappy customer. Especially when you consider the profit margins on parts like those. They won't lose any money if they replace it.
